Workplace First Aid Training: Mental Health Focus
Empower your team with Workplace Mental Health First Aid training
Cultivate a safe, healthy workplace with evidence-based Mental Health First Aid Training, customised and delivered to help you achieve your goals. Poor mental health costs Australian businesses up to $39 billion each year in lost productivity and participation—investing in workplace first aid training for mental health delivers measurable benefits for both employees and business outcomes.
Better support for healthy workspaces
Considering the prevalence of mental health issues and how they impact the long-term wellbeing of your team, finding a strategy to improve your work environment should be a priority. Without proper preventative & early intervention measures, you’re leaving your team vulnerable to serious mental health problems – not only for their overall health, but their ability to function at their best and succeed in their careers. Psychological safety and psychosocial safety are essential for creating a supportive environment where employees feel secure to share concerns and seek help without fear of negative consequences. Focusing on psychosocial health and building a psychosocially safe workplace ensures your team has the resources and support needed for better mental health.
Many mental health crises aren’t immediately obvious, which means that many problems pass beyond our notice. But a trained Mental Health First Aider, knowledgeable in identifying signs and symptoms of growing issues, can provide life-saving assistance in the same manner as a physical First Aider in a physical health crisis. Management capability is one of the most influential contributors to improving mental health outcomes for employees, and leadership plays a key role in fostering a culture that promotes positive mental health. Business leaders must actively promote positive mental health and drive policies and behaviours that benefit the whole business.
Mental Health First Aid training provides your teams with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to notice when a peer requires assistance, follow a plan of action to stabilise a crisis, and guide their colleagues to the help they need. Creating a mentally healthy workplace and promoting better mental health should be a core focus for leadership, not a peripheral concern. Mental Health First Aid training helps you keep your workplace safe.

Understanding Mental Health Conditions
Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance use problems, and bipolar disorder can significantly impact an individual’s life and their ability to perform at work. Recognising the signs and symptoms of these conditions is essential for providing timely support and creating a mentally healthy workplace.
Employers and managers benefit from mental health training that builds understanding of mental health conditions and equips them with practical strategies to support employees. Resources from organisations like the Black Dog Institute offer valuable support services and information to help both individuals and workplaces manage mental health conditions effectively.
Promoting awareness and understanding of mental health conditions helps reduce stigma, encourages open conversations, and fosters a supportive workplace culture. By taking proactive steps, organisations can create a workplace where employees feel safe, supported, and empowered to seek help when needed.

Can you change your course structure for our organisation?
How long does MHFA accreditation last?
Three years, much the same as physical first aid certification, after which it’s a good idea to brush up on your skills and learn the most up-to-date information. We run Mental Health First Aid Refresher programs to recertify you for another three years, commonly accessed in short online sessions.
Is it important to have a Mental Health First Aider in the workplace?
We believe so, and so do many experts around the world. Beyond the immediate benefits of creating a safer environment for the people in your organisation, MHFA training provides a great deal of insight into the experiences of colleagues, helps build leadership skills, and enables more open conversations about mental wellness.
Even without considering the serious mental health outcomes in our country, the same statistics – one in five Australians each year with a serious mental health issue – relate directly to the impact people have toward their professional success, personally and as a team. MHFA training empowers your team to be safer, more efficient, more optimistic, and driven for success.
