Mental Health First Aid Course

Training when you need it, where you need it.

We offer full Mental Health First Aid accreditation courses to provide the knowledge and practical skills to offer life-saving support and improve the mental health outcomes in your workplace, school, network, or community. Our mental health first aid course is suitable for a wide range of people and can be delivered in various formats, including face-to-face, blended, and online options for maximum flexibility. In any one year, it is estimated that one in five Australian adults will experience a mental health condition, highlighting the importance of mental health awareness.

What is Mental Health First Aid training and accreditation?

While MHFA courses come in many different formats, they all include the same evidence-based knowledge, relevant, useful skills, and mental health awareness training. As a counterpart to physical first aid, they aim to enable people to provide early or emergency aid for mental health conditions and mental illness, and help introduce topics about mental wellbeing to make workplaces, schools, and groups of people safer. Participants learn to identify signs and symptoms of common mental illnesses, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, and substance use disorders.

Mental Health First Aid courses are Australian-founded while providing internationally recognised accreditation, and are based on scientific evidence and the lived-experience of people with mental health problems. The ALGEE Action Plan, a five-step, evidence-based response framework, is central to the learning. The course includes a simple component to ensure participants gain practical skills.

How we approach Mental Health First Aid

We bring our work to everyone – any background, any culture – from enterprise-level corporations to schools and community groups. Our mental health first aid course is designed for all members of the community, including students, educators, and workplace teams. Everyone has a different approach, with their own requirements to access the training they need. So, we make it easy, engaging and welcoming for everyone we work with, customising our course to suit their needs.

We’d love to see as many people as possible learn the crucial skills & knowledge of MHFA because it benefits everybody. Our course builds essential skills and confidence to support others, not just in creating safer, more welcoming places for vulnerable people both young and old, but also enabling healthier, more productive workspaces for businesses. Educating participants helps to break down barriers to help-seeking for mental health support.

Why do MHFA with The Mental Health Coach?

Experienced Facilitators

MHFA is informed by the lived experience of people—something our facilitators, who are experienced professionals, are deeply familiar with. We bring much of ourselves to each course, drawing on our backgrounds as counsellors, coaches, leaders, and practitioners to help you connect and learn. The course emphasises hands-on practice, allowing you to develop and refine your skills through practical exercises. Training also includes effective communication skills, with a focus on non-judgmental communication to build trust and connection with individuals in distress.

Customised Courses

Life is messy – whether it’s time, location, learning type, or anything else – we cater with full customisation. We prioritise accessibility, offering in-person, remote, and online study options for added flexibility. Flexible entry requirements and a range of short courses are available for those seeking a quicker introduction to mental health first aid, making it easier to get started regardless of your background. We’ll make sure you get the MHFA that’s right for you.

Welcoming & Comfortable

Mental health can be a tough topic for many people. With deep respect for both the subject material and you, we make it easier to approach with a comfortable, safe atmosphere—providing resources and guidance to support people in need—and we even share a laugh from time to time.

Impactful Training

In whichever way you measure your impact – we take the same perspective. Whether you’re aiming to advance your career in the mental health field, achieve your career goals in community services, or gain a mental health qualification to open doors to a variety of roles, we’ll support your journey. From healthier workplaces, to critical skills and confident, open conversations, our mental health first aid course has a positive impact on both individual careers and the broader community. We’ll aim for your goals and measure the outcomes together.

We Make It Easy
