Mental wellbeing isn’t always in plain sight

Like some physical conditions, many mental health issues aren’t always obvious – if you aren’t trained to see the signs, you may not even know the person sitting across from you is in desperate need of help. But even when you notice that something isn’t right, it can feel difficult to act without the confidence to offer safe, informed support.

Suicide is a tragedy that occurs far too often – more than 3000 people every year, and the emotional toll on those closest incurs a higher risk and worse outcomes. But the simple fact remains: Suicide is preventable.

Anyone can combat suicide risk with awareness, early intervention, and crisis management. Understand the facts, identify the signs, learn the process to confidently and safely approach the person, and know that professional assistance is always within reach. With the right training, you can be a pillar of strength and stability for your peers. With the skills & knowledge learnt through SafeTALK, saving a life is easy – and we have countless stories from clients who tell us they have done just that.

“Better mental health outcomes benefit everybody, and with the right skills and knowledge, anyone can make a difference”

Nick McEwan-Hall

In Australia, and also the wider world, mental health outcomes continually fail to meet the standards of a healthy, functioning society. It’s an issue that deserves our attention – to overcome stigmas and create an environment where people are supported through tough times. We believe it can be achieved with a dedicated response from everyday people.

The Mental Health Coach is our way to improve the support available to vulnerable people all throughout society in a tangible, lasting way. With knowledge from evidence-based training and the confidence to share experiences with peers, we work with you to make a difference.

Nick started The Mental Health Coach with this in mind. From his background as coach, counsellor, facilitator and leader of multidisciplinary teams, he came to understand the wide variety of ways different people engage with learning.

Through programs like the globally-recognised Mental Health First Aid training, TMHC reaches people throughout society. We help people build safer, stronger, more supportive places to work, live and grow. By sharing the knowledge and skills that help make an impact when it matters most, we can all work together to move the needle in the right direction.
