Mental Health First Aid Refresher
Update your Mental Health First Aid Certificate
Why do you need to update your MHFA training?
It’s always worth investing in a short MHFA refresher course to learn what’s new in MHFA research and update your skills for the another three years.
If you’re closing in on your three years of Mental Health First Aid certification, then it’s time to consider a refresher course to recertify yourself or your team. We ask that you consider how impactful your MHFA skills have been, and weigh that against the cost of a short refresher course.
In most workplaces, communities & organisations, a trained MHFAider will have improved the safety, wellbeing, and people-powered success of a workspace, the comfort and safety of students and adolescents, and the confidence and openness to discuss mental health, making early intervention and protection easier. Regardless of how you measure success, and even without a crisis, you’ve still more than made up for your time and investment.
The value in being a reliable safety net for your peers isn’t evident every day, but that security, combined with the skills to start conversations about mental health – priceless.
Why do MHFA with The Mental Health Coach?
Experienced Facilitators
MHFA is informed by the lived experience of people - something our facilitators are familiar with. We bring much of ourselves to each course, and use our experiences as counsellors, coaches, leaders, and people to help you connect and learn.
Customised Courses
Life is messy - whether it’s time, location, learning type, or anything else - we cater with full customisation. We prioritise accessibility, catering for in-person, remote, or unique content - we’ll make sure you get the MHFA that’s right for you.
Welcoming & Comfortable
Mental health can be a tough topic for many people. With deep respect for both the subject material and you, we make it easier to approach with a comfortable, safe atmosphere - and we even share a laugh from time to time.
Impactful Training
In whichever way you measure your impact - we take the same perspective. From healthier workplaces, to critical skills and confident, open conversations, we’ll aim for your goals and measure the outcomes together.
We Make It Easy
Mental Health First Aid certification is a well-understood benefit to any community, but not always easy to arrange. It is with us. We work with you to help access and integrate the powerful lessons of MHFA into your community or organisation.
Inclusive For All
Mental Health First Aid is for everyone - we aim to make it equally accessible regardless of your experience in life. We offer sensory aids, fidget tools, and customised courses to give you the best experience. Don’t hesitate to tell us what you need.
What to expect from the MHFA refresher course
The short refresher course is typically run online, accessible from anywhere with an internet connection, but can also be run in-person. You’ll join our facilitator for two 3-hour sessions, where you’ll brush up on your skills and catch up on the changes in the research and techniques recommended. During the session, we’ll work on the ALGEE action plan and give you a valuable opportunity to perfect your approach so it comes naturally should the need arise.
You’ll receive your three years of Mental Health First Aid certification, empowering you to continue making a difference for the wellbeing of your friends, family, community and peers.

What you’ll learn
In our refresher course, we return to the evidence-based course material of the Mental Health First Aid system, and catch you up on the latest updates. We’ll, once again, show you how to prevent, intervene and support people experiencing mental health issues, and update your list of emergency contacts should a crisis occur.
You’ll have plenty of additional practice in applying the ALGEE action plan to manage a mental health crisis while securing professional help, and update your skills so you can keep making an impact on the mental health outcomes in your workplace or community.

“Better mental health outcomes benefit everybody, and with the right skills and knowledge, anyone can make a difference”
In Australia, and also the wider world, mental health outcomes continually fail to meet the standards of a healthy, functioning society. It’s an issue that deserves our attention – to overcome stigmas and create an environment where people are supported through tough times. We believe it can be achieved with a dedicated response from everyday people.

Nick started The Mental Health Coach with this in mind. From his background as coach, counsellor, facilitator and leader of multidisciplinary teams, he came to understand the wide variety of ways different people engage with learning.
