Writing Themselves In 4 shows us that 81% of those surveyed have experienced high or very high level of distress in the last 4 weeks. That’s more than three times higher than those in the general population.
We also know that young LGBTQIA+ folks have more than fives times the rate of suicidal thought or self harm.
And only 53% of those people have accessed professional supports.
By giving them evidence based skills (through Youth Mental Health First Aid) training, we’re empowering young people themselves, and those that support them, to look after each other.
This program is focussed on supporting the mental health of young people, 18-25 years old. To be eligible, you need to be one of the following:
• A young person between 18 and 25 who identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community (or questioning if you might be).
• Be connected to a person like those described above. For example, you might be a friend or family member, an ally, or someone who works with young LGBTQIA+ people as part of their job (such as a youth worker, counsellor, community group leader, school teacher or something else).

The Youth Mental Health First Aid program is a two day, face to face program. Everything you need to participate is provided.
This program will be provided cost-free to young LGBTQIA+ folks, and at a reduced fee for service providers, support workers, etc.
